2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins

2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins. Active January fifteenth, 2008, the U.S. Mint created the American Bald Eagle commemorating coin. Theses strikes were created to stand for the importance of the Bald Eagles as the national symbolization of the United States, to America's lands, skies and watercourses, the retrieval and restoration of the eagle, and to commemorate the thirty-fifth day of remembrance of the vulnerable Species Act of 1973. These mints will help in the protection of the eagle as every coin that gets sold benefits the eagle through the American Eagle institution.

There are three American Bald Eagle coins that have been coined. They each boast both natural and historical Bald Eagle pictures and allegories. One of them is aimed at young collectors. This is the clad fifty-cent piece; one side will be a profile of the Bald Eagle (Challenger), on the other side are two baby eaglets snuggled in their nest. A lot of kids will have discovered Challenger, who is a 19-year-old non-releasable bird cared for by AEF and has came out at sporting events and observances, flaunting a free flight dramatic show.

A lot of hard work and excitement working with United States Mint, their artists and engravers to create three wonderful and attractive coins, all for the honorable cause of assisting to protect a national treasure the bald eagle for the future generations to look up to and keep the program going. The U.S. Mint Bald Eagle Coins are collectable and include a five dollar gold coin, a silver dollar and the clad half dollar. They are in stock individually or come in 3 extraordinary sets. There is a surcharge collected from the sale of each coin, and each coin will be earmarked. This will help to create an American Eagle Fund endowment to be handled as a not-for-profit AEF. It's anticipated that there's the potential to raise over ten million dollars for the bald eagle protection campaign.

The U.S. Mint Bald Eagle Coins will deliver peak mintages over all the production alternatives. These limits are 100,000 for the five dollar gold coin, 500,000 for the silver dollar and 750,000 for the clad half dollar. The makeup of the 5 dollar bald eagle coin represents 90% gold, 10% alloy, the silver coin composition is 90% silver, 10% alloy and the half dollar is 8.33% nickel, with the remainder copper.

To advertise these beautiful Bald Eagle Coins, on April 10th, 2008, country and western vocalist Dolly Parton was given the honor of pulling the rope that freed a 14 week eaglet into the wilderness. The release took place at Douglas Lake, Tennessee in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and was attended by Gloria Eskridge, who is the U.S. Mint's Associate Director of Sales and Marketing along with Al Cecere, who is the president and founder of the American Eagle Foundation (AEF).

It's also possible for the public to view these very splendid birds of prey at the Dollywood theme park, the park is located at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and not only are there rides for the kids, shows are put on each day with these awe-inspiring birds. The American Eagle Foundation (AEF) also features a center there to get more information concerning the U.S. Mint Bald Eagle Coin, and how the sale of these coins is helping to save this cherished species.

A campaign like this is likely the first time in the country's history anything has been done like this before. For the now famous bald eagle to appear on legal tender United States mintage, it was through the untiring campaign from the AEF faculty with Challenger on Capitol Hill who strove to reassure that the U.S. Mint Bald Eagle Coin bill was legislated.
