American Eagle Gold Coins

New Items Added: 2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins. Active January fifteenth, 2008, the U.S. Mint created the American Bald Eagle commemorating coin. Theses strikes were created to stand for the importance of the Bald Eagles as the national symbolization of the United States, to America's lands, skies and watercourses, the retrieval and restoration of the eagle, and to commemorate the thirty-fifth day of remembrance of the vulnerable Species Act of 1973. These mints will help in the protection of the eagle as every coin that gets sold benefits the eagle through the American Eagle institution.

American Eagle Gold Coins.
The American Gold Eagle is an official gold bullion coin of the United States. Authorized under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985, it was first released by the United States Mint in 1986. Offered in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz denominations, these coins are guaranteed by the U.S. government to contain the stated amount of actual gold weight in troy ounces. By law, the gold must come from sources in America, with an additional alloy of silver and copper to produce a more wear-resistant coin of .9167 (22 karat, which had long been the crown gold English standard for gold coins). It is authorized by the United States Congress and is backed by the United States Mint for weight and content.

The market value of the coins is generally about equal to the market value of their gold content, not their face value. (As of January 2008 the $5, $10, $25, and $50 coins by face value are worth and sell for about $110, $225, $450, and $900 USD respectively. Their actual selling prices vary daily based on the current spot price of gold.) The American Gold Eagle may be used to fund one government sanctioned Individual Retirement Account. The United States Mint also produces a proof version for coin collectors. These coins are for the most part produced at the West Point Mint in West Point, New York and carry the mint's mark ("W") beneath the date.

1921 PEACE DOLLAR Coins. The Peace Dollar is a silver United States dollar coin minted from 1921 to 1928, then again in 1934 and 1935. Early proposals for the coin called for a commemorative issue to coincide with the end of World War I, but the Peace Dollar was issued as a circulating coin.

1894 Rare *Key Date* Morgan Silver Dollar Coin. More than half a billion Morgan dollars were struck from 1878 through 1904, with production taking place at the main mint in Philadelphia and the branches in New Orleans, San Francisco and Carson City. Carson City production was generally much lower and ended altogether after that branch was closed in 1893. The coin came back for one final curtain call in 1921, when more than 86 million examples were produced under the terms of the Pittman Act at Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver-but that was a double-edged sword: Under the 1918 legislation, more than 270 million older silver dollars, almost all Morgans, had been melted. The law required replacements for these, but most were of the Peace design, which replaced the Morgan version at the end of 1921.
